Abundant Water & Caritas Luxembourg Complete
Third Round Under Partnership

Abundant Water and Caritas Luxembourg have just completed the third round of free filter installations as part of their two-year partnership in Xieng Khouang. Timorese trainee Joanico Da Silva took part in the field visit, alongside Program Manager Keith Wingeard, and local potters Por Chang and Keomany. Our team visited the villages of Mor, Namkiew, Namchaotai, Namone and Yourkmoon over three days.

Both the Abundant Water and Caritas teams worked together with a representative from Association for Preservation Natural Resources Environment and the Development of the Community, as well the Provincial and District Lao Women’s Union, the District Health Office and Provincial and District Nam Saat (Lao clean water authority) to deliver 84 household filters as well as 10 filters for schools in Mok District.

There was a great deal of interest from local communities, which saw Abundant Water initially sell an additional 27 filters, with a further 30 being sent to households who were unable to buy a filter at the time of the visit.

On completion of this third field visit the Abundant Water and Caritas Luxembourg  partnership has already seen:

·       Filters delivered to 15 villages across 3 districts

·       244 filters installed for free:

o   225 in ‘greatest need’ families

o   10 filters in 5 schools

o   9 filters for families whose houses were destroyed in a recent landslide

·       1714 people have access to safe and clean drinking water to date

Alongside the filters provided through the partnership 54 filters have been sold and installed, with an additional 30 filters on their way to Xieng Khouang to be installed by Caritas team for a total of 84 sold to date.

Only months into the partnership we have seen an immediate and meaningful impact into communities across Xieng Khouang especially following recent flooding and landslides.

At Abundant Water are so excited for what the future holds and what can be achieved through this partnership, thank you Caritas Luxembourg!
