ABUNDANT WATER'S
'ADAPTIVE EDGE'
The Adaptive Edge has evolved through Abundant Water's experience working with communities, local entrepreneurs, partners and teams in complex and changing environments.
The ability to adapt isn't simply about reacting when things go wrong. It is about developing the skills, systems and leadership practices needed to recognise change, make informed decisions and respond effectively.
Could the Adaptive Edge help your team?
What is the Adaptive Edge?
The Adaptive Edge is a graduated training program in planning, decision making and adaptation
It supports people to build adaptive capability at four levels:
Myself → My team → My organisation → My system
It draws on science and established leadership training approaches, combined with learning developed through real-world application in complex and changing environments.
It is practical, active and evidence-based, with a focus on applying learning to real challenges and achieving measurable outcomes.
Why the Adaptive edge?
Change and challenges are a constant in our personal and professional lives, in both the public and private sectors.
We will all be confronted with situations and assignments, especially in an environment of unpredictability and rapid change, where we will feel ill-equipped and ill-prepared; in these events we are supported by personal resilience and established and proven practices.
When project goal posts move, technology rapidly changes and teams disperse and reform, we are challenged to develop new skills and capabilities, and our organisations are required to develop new capacities.
Abundant Water's Adaptive Edge enables organisations and their people to respond to these challenges, learn quickly and adapt to these complex and changing environments, to solve problems and deliver on difficult assignments.
How do we develop an Adaptive Edge?
The 'Adaptive Edge' is an active and practical program in collaborative decision making, implementation, adaptation, learning and improvement.
We learn how to develop a common vision and goals, and to hold fast to this vision while adapting actions and plans according to the feedback and outcomes.
We learn how to dig deep into why we make the decisions we do, and why we choose actions that often fail; and we learn how to ask hard questions and hear difficult feedback; and how to question our answers and test our plans.
We learn how to rapidly turn ideas into actions, theories into practices and leverage feedback into substantive adaptations.
We learn how to utilise the Adaptive Edge as a tool for ongoing cultural and behavioural change.
Abundant Water knows we need to operate in a world where plans rarely survive unchanged. Building on the Adaptive Edge principles, our team has learned to face uncertainty, complexity and disruption.
Whether you are an NGO, a community organisation, a Government team or a social entreprise, we can tailor the Adaptive Edge Program delivery to the needs of your team and make your entire organisation more adaptable and reactive to change.
