On 18 July 2024, Abundant Water organised a study tour for some of our donors and supporters took part in an informative and eye opening field trip in Timor-Leste.
Participants had the chance to visit two schools near Dili: the Escola Basico Filial pilaparia Government School and the Mae de deus tibar (Mother of God) School.
As some of our followers may know, in May 2023 our previous Program Supervisor in Timor-Leste Emily Glazebrook won 2nd prize at the Global Solutions Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards. This saw Emily travel all the way to Berlin to pitch the Abundant Water solution to a panel of judges at the televised event!
We recently had the opportunity to train 8 vendors and 2 government officers on WASH issues, water filter technology, filter set preparation, and marketing fundamentals.
Our program supervisor Chris recently got the chance to visit a recycling plant run by Caltech in Dili!
This plant recycles everything, from plastic bottles, to glass, to cardboard, and even the plastic film used for packaging that so often ends up in landfill.
The Abundant Water team continues to face one of Timor-Leste’s greatest logistical challenges: its roads. Chris Draper, Abundant Water’s Supervising Project Officer shares his experience: "What makes Abundant Water so incredible is that our vendors travel these challenging roads to make sales to those in their communities. Even if the road is muddy or partially collapsed, our vendors are able to bring clean water to the most remote locations of the country"
